SUMMARY:Beef 101: Beginning Rancher Development
DESCRIPTION:The University of Idaho Beginning Rancher Development Program is designed to provide beginning ranchers with useful knowledge and resources to increase success in their operation. Multiple three-day or less workshops will be held across the Pacific Northwest on a variety of topics. Workshops will be limited to 30 participants\, providing plenty of hands-on\, in-depth instruction. There is a $20 equipment fee to participate. Travel and lodging scholarships are available. Download PDF course flyer. \n\n\n\n\n\nDay 1 – All About the Beef Cattle\n\nTopics: Live Animal Evaluation; Beef Harvest Demonstration; Beef Quality Assurance Training.\nEvaluate live cattle on muscle\, fat/cover\, structure\, volume; demonstration of cattle harvest; practice low stress animal handling techniques.\n\nDay 2 – Animal Health and Resources Management\n\nTopics: Forage; Grazing and Natural Resource Management; Animal Health; Financial Management.\nUnderstand basics of ruminant digestive system; information on rotational grazing\, proper stocking density for environmental sustainability; evaluate quality of feed samples; tools for financial management.\n\nDay 3 – Beef on the Rail\n\nTopics: Beef Carcass Grading; Beef Carcass Fabrication; Sensory Evaluation.\nEvaluate carcass USDA Yield and Quality Grades; demonstration of how to break down a beef carcass; understand the translation from cattle to beef products for the consumer.

DESCRIPTION:Proposals Due July 31\, 2024 \nTriState Health\, in partnership with the Nez Perce Tribe\, is inviting local artists and sculptors to contribute to the design of a Healing Garden on the main hospital campus. The garden aims to promote health and healing while celebrating the beauty of the Lewis Clark Valley. The project seeks to commission one to three bronze and/or metal sculptures that evoke peace\, well-being\, and nature. Interested artists are encouraged to inquire or submit designs and proposals by July 31\, 2024\, to TriState Health Foundation at PO Box 636\, Clarkston\, WA 99403\, or via email at foundation@tsmh.org.
