October’s celebration of National Arts and Humanities Month was made even more special for Nimiipuu Fund, as we successfully hosted a Native Artist Professional Development training last week. The event was part of Nimiipuu Fund’s ongoing efforts to uplift Native American culture and support Indigenous artists in their creative and professional growth.

One participant, Terri Carnes, shared her excitement about the experience: “I was given a GREAT opportunity to attend the 2-day training for Native Artist Professional Development. Roxanne and Leslie Deer were amazing as presenters and role models! They went above and beyond sharing their personal journeys, which was really inspiring and helpful. The content was so helpful and easy to understand.”

Instructor Roxanne Best shared, “Teaching alongside Leslie Deer was such a powerful experience. I feel like I learned just as much as the artists who attended the training. One of the things I love most about working with Indigenous artists and teaching business development is the openness to share knowledge and support one another. It was incredible to witness the connections being made and the sense of community that formed.”

The training not only empowered Native artists with practical skills to strengthen their businesses but also fostered a sense of community and shared resilience among participants, reminding them that perseverance is key to both their creative and entrepreneurial journeys. This successful event underscores Nimiipuu Fund’s commitment to helping Indigenous artists thrive, now and in the future.
