Columbia River Indian Fishers Expo 2024

A one-day event for Columbia River treaty fishers to get information, resources, and training that will help them improve river safety, fish quality, and equipment maintenance. The event and lunch are free for all Yakama, Umatilla, Warm Springs, and Nez Perce tribal members. The Columbia River Indian Fishers Expo is hosted by the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission. (Note: there are only 30 slots for the food handling classes, so register early to guarantee a spot.)

The lunch presentation “From Waters to Markets: Empowering Tribal Fishermen in Public Sales and Farmers Markets” will feature panelists who will discuss the thriving world of selling tribal fish directly to the public and through farmers markets. The panel will explore the unique opportunities, challenges, and successes that arise when tribal fishers engage in direct sales, connecting their catch with enthusiastic consumers. The panelists will share their experiences and insights of selling tribal fish in public markets. They will delve into topics such as sustainable fishing practices, community engagement, economic empowerment, marketing strategies, and regulatory considerations.
