We’re proud to have played a part in this important project that brings lower-cost power and improved broadband to the Metlakatla Indian Community on Annette Island, Alaska. This investment strengthens tribal capacity, builds resilience, and connects communities—work that truly matters for Native communities.

Native American Bank provided a $5.2 million bridge loan to Metlakatla Power & Light to complete the Melatkatla Intertie, which will link local infrastructure to the Ketchikan Public Utilities system. The project includes submarine fiber optic cable for broadband and utility connections that will reduce energy costs, expand clean energy use, and provide more affordable internet access.

Key partners included Baker TillyOweestaSpruce RootNimiipuu Fund, and Nixyáawii Community Finance Services. Together, these Native CDFIs and organizations are helping ensure lasting benefits for the Metlakatla community.
